New style icons for guys
I believe women are more open about their style crushes. If I idolize a new celeb’s clothes, I have no shame in saying I think she looks amazing. It’s probably why we continue to buy magazines and search the net for the latest pics of starlets walking their dogs and carrying enormous coffees. I also get major fashion envy from women I see on the street and my nearest and dearest girlfriends. In short, my inspiration is almost everyone I see and don’t care who knows it.
Men on the other hand, I find are reticent to admit their adoration for another man’s style. The closest they seem to get is mumbling “that dude’s shirts cool” or “he looks a bit dressy”. Which is fine… but I believe underneath it all, they are simply dying to gush about a guy’s ensemble and the way a mate looks that certain shade of blue.
I think men are keen to borrow more clothes from their mates too, if it was more commonly excepted to do so. The only circumstance, it seems, a male will borrow another man’s clothes is if it’s freezing and a guy doesn’t have a jumper, a surprise big night out, a spilling accident or maybe, just maybe a footy jersey will be passed between friends. I practically book my girlfriend’s clothes for an upcoming event the minute they have bought it. Sharing is caring, boys.
With men’s lifestyle/fashion magazines becoming a booming industry and guys buying more clothes than ever, I thought it was a great time to hail in the new kings of style for boys everywhere to freely admire.
So long George Clooney, I have selected the newest style icons for men…
Jason Schwartzman
This isn’t the first time I have mentioned Jason Schwartzman, but I just think he’s so damn cool I am including him again. He seems to be so perfectly awkward yet confident that he can pull of some of the strangest woolen jumpers you have ever seen. This is for your inner indie/nerd kid. Find some cordaroy pants, a knitted vest and thick rimmed glasses and you will channeling Jason perfectly. Cute dog too.
Hamish and Andy
Men love Hamish and Andy. Actually, everyone loves Hamish and Andy. Funny, sincere and blokey yet sweet – they seem to push everyone’s buttons. Even mine from a fashion point of view. They love their printed T-Shirts, comfy jeans, great sneakers, cool caps and can pull together nicely in a suit. These guys are great practical dressers and would be perfect fashion icons for someone needing to update their weekend style.
Zac Efron
The new Justin Timberlake. I know, I know… probably no man would admit to thinking Zac Efron is cool. “Wasn’t he singing and dancing on a basketball court or something lame like that?”. Yes, that’s the one. But if you see him in everyday life, the boy can dress. This is a great look for picking up the ladies. Great beanies, some flannel and a loads of white T-shirts. Cool and surfy.
Russell Brand
So maybe not the full Russell Brand look, but he certainly has casual rock star down pat! If you are sick of looking too goody two-shoes and want a bit of danger in your life (or want to look like you do) Russell is a perfect style icon. Suave, sexy and confident.
Jason Derulo
He can sing, dance, pick up ladies and shave his facial hair into the neatest goatee I’ve ever seen. And to top it off, the man sure knows how to wear a sweater. I love Jason Derulo’s look. A little big preppy but still essentially urban, Jason is the perfect example of well groomed, confident style.
